Welcome to Bleimeil, your dedicated lunar observation companion built to help you capture moonlit moments, record weather and phase conditions, archive observations by date and phase, and explore the full lunar cycle through our interactive timeline.
We understand that your lunar observations are more than just data points — they are personal memories of quiet stargazing nights, milestones in your astronomy journey, and unique records of the sky as you experience it. Our entire privacy framework is built on one non-negotiable principle: you own every piece of data you create in Bleimeil, full stop.
This policy avoids confusing legal jargon wherever possible to keep our practices fully transparent. If you have questions about any section, you can reach our team at any time via privacy@bleimeil.app.
What Data We Collect (And Why It Exists For Your Lunar Experience)
We never collect data in the background without your explicit, active consent. All data you record is stored locally on your device by default — we never access or sync this data to our servers unless you intentionally opt in to our optional cloud backup feature.
Data you voluntarily provide to us:
- Observation content you create: moon photos, weather notes (cloud cover, visibility, temperature, etc.), custom phase labels, personal observation journals, and optional location tags (to calculate accurate local moon phase angles for your timeline)
- Account information (only if you choose to register for cloud sync): your email address, used exclusively for backup recovery and account security alerts
- Feedback, support requests, or bug reports you send to our team, which we only use to improve app functionality
Data we never collect, under any circumstances:
- Photos, files, or content from your device that you do not explicitly import into your observation log
- Your browsing activity, app usage, or location data outside of active Bleimeil use
- Contact lists, microphone data, or other device permissions you have not explicitly granted for specific features
- Biometric information, health data, or demographic information unrelated to your lunar observations
How We Use Your Data (Only For Features You Signed Up For)
Every use of your data directly supports core Bleimeil functionality — we never repurpose your observation content for unrelated use cases:
- Local device processing (no data leaves your phone): sorting your observations by date and lunar phase, generating your interactive lunar cycle timeline, calculating phase progression metrics, and generating custom observation stats (e.g., how many full moons you’ve captured, percentage of the lunar cycle you’ve documented)
- Cloud sync (only if enabled): end-to-end encrypted backup of your observation archive to support cross-device access and data recovery if your device is lost or damaged
- Account security: sending you recovery emails if you lose access to your cloud sync account, or alerting you to unusual account activity
- App improvements: analyzing anonymized, aggregated feature usage data to fix bugs and optimize existing tools (this data never includes your personal observation content or identifiable information)
We never build user profiles, never track your activity outside of Bleimeil, and never use your data to serve personalized advertisements. Your observation content is never analyzed for any purpose other than the features you actively choose to use.
Data Sharing: Your Moon Moments Stay Yours, Always
We have never sold, rented, or licensed user data to third parties, and we never will. There are only two extremely limited scenarios where we may disclose data:
- When you actively choose to share content: if you export your observation log, share a timeline screenshot, or post your moon photos to external platforms, that sharing is controlled entirely by you. We do not receive or store records of content you share externally.
- When required by unavoidable mandatory rules: in the rare case we are compelled to disclose data by applicable mandatory rules that we cannot lawfully avoid, we will take all reasonable steps to notify affected users in advance, unless we are prohibited from doing so.
Any third-party service providers we work with (e.g., cloud storage providers for optional sync) only receive end-to-end encrypted data that they cannot decode or access. They are contractually prohibited from using your data for any purpose other than providing the specific service we engage them for.
Your Full Control Over Your Lunar Archive
You have complete, unrestricted control over all data you create in Bleimeil, no account required:
- View, edit, or delete individual observation records, or bulk delete your entire observation archive at any time directly in the app settings
- Export your full observation archive (including all photos, notes, phase tags, and location data) as a zip file at any time, no support request required
- Turn off cloud sync at any time, with the option to immediately and permanently delete all your encrypted backup data from our servers (we retain no copies after deletion)
- Toggle location permissions on or off at any time, with the option to bulk delete all existing location tags from your archive without deleting your observation records
- Reset all app data in one tap, permanently erasing all local Bleimeil content from your device (we cannot recover this data once erased)
Data Security: We Protect Your Observations Like We Protect Our Own
We design our security practices around the sensitivity of your personal observation content:
- All local observation data is protected by your device’s native full-disk encryption, and cannot be accessed by other apps on your device without your explicit permission
- Cloud sync data is end-to-end encrypted: only your trusted devices hold the decryption key, and our servers only store unreadable, encrypted ciphertext that we cannot decode
- Account credentials (if you register for cloud sync) are hashed using industry-standard salted hashing algorithms — we never store plaintext passwords
- We conduct quarterly security audits of our systems and app code to patch vulnerabilities before they can be exploited
- In the unlikely event of a data breach that affects your data, we will notify all affected users within 72 hours of confirming the breach, alongside clear steps to protect your content
Interactive Lunar Timeline Privacy Specifics
Our signature interactive lunar timeline feature has additional privacy guardrails built in by design:
- Your timeline is generated entirely on your local device using only your own observation data — no timeline content is processed or stored on our servers unless you explicitly enable cloud sync
- We never inject third-party content, advertisements, or tracking beacons into your timeline view
- Timeline browsing history, custom views, and phase comparison settings are stored exclusively on your device, and never leave it unless you choose to sync them
- Any timeline exports (as images or PDF files) are generated locally on your device, and we do not receive copies of exports you share with others
Privacy For Young Lunar Enthusiasts
We designed Bleimeil to be accessible for astronomy fans of all ages, with extra privacy protections for younger users:
- Cloud sync is disabled by default for all users we identify as below the applicable age of majority, and all data is stored exclusively locally on the device unless a legal guardian explicitly opts in to cloud sync
- We never intentionally collect personal information from users below the applicable age of majority without verifiable guardian consent
- Guardians may request access to, correction of, or deletion of data associated with a minor user at any time by contacting us at privacy@bleimeil.app
Policy Updates
We may occasionally update this policy to reflect new features, security improvements, or updated operational practices:
- All updates will be posted in the Bleimeil app settings and on our official website at least 30 days before they take effect, alongside a clear summary of changes
- If you continue to use Bleimeil after the updated policy takes effect, you acknowledge your agreement with the revised terms
- If you do not agree with updated policy terms, you may export all your observation data and stop using the app at any time, with no residual data retained by us
